Sandi Maddox paints soft abstracted landscapes which capture the ‘essence of place’.Her studio, under a large oak tree facing the Eastern Ranges of the South Wairarapa, New Zealand is a natural place to observe and absorb her surroundings.Paintings are inspired by the weather, geography and the seasons in this part of the world. Before beginning a painting there are walks and time spent in the landscape, being fully present and practicing a simple grounding meditation. The painting it’s self is intuitive, responding to marks and colours as they are placed on the canvas.Sandi was born in Lancashire, England and emigrated to New Zealand in 2005 where she has been fascinated by the landscape. Sandi has studied at UCOL, The Learning Connexion and has recently completed online studies “The Year Long Landscape” with Newlys Art School, Cornwall. Enabling her to revisit another favourite coastline.Sandi is a founding member of Greytown Art Gallery and has exhibited in the Wairarapa since 2018. Sandi’s work is held in private collections in the USA, Canada, Australia, the UK and Europe.
